Limits: No paid account was used: no LiveChat or Text plan was purchased and no chats, uptime, or support tests were run for this review; product behavior and user ratings come from the cited third-party reviews. Prices, plan details, and the Text transition were read on October 7, 2026 from LiveChat's official pages; the vendor now routes new customers to Text plans while legacy LiveChat plans remain documented at the legacy pricing page, and promotions, taxes, and add-on prices can change. Third-party coverage of the 2026 Text transition is thin; this review relies on the vendor's own FAQ and pricing pages for how new signups and existing accounts are handled. Independent sources disagree on several details: one review lists Business monthly billing at $95 against the official $89, older reviews still quote retired price ladders, and rating aggregates differ by platform; where sources conflict, this review defers to the current official pages and flags the discrepancies.

Editorial verdict+/- Conditionalmedium confidence

LiveChat is still one of the most mature live chat platforms, with reporting depth and integrations that independent testers rank near the top of the category. The 2026 buying decision is really two decisions: new customers are provisioned on Text plans at $19 to $79 per user per month with metered AI resolutions, while legacy LiveChat plans ($19/$49/$79 annual) remain for existing accounts, and the $19 legacy Starter tier is capped at a single seat. A conditional buy for reporting-heavy support teams, and a compare-first situation for everyone else.

Best for
  • Support and sales teams that will use Team or Growth tier reporting and agent tooling daily
  • WordPress and Shopify site owners who want a quick-install chat widget with broad integrations
  • Agencies that manage multiple client brands from one chat workspace
  • Small teams that start on an entry tier and expect to grow into higher limits
Avoid if
  • You need a free plan or free agent seats: there is only a 14-day trial
  • You expect multi-agent support on the $19 legacy tier, which is capped at one seat
  • You want AI automation bundled: resolutions are metered and ChatBot is a separate subscription
  • You need deep social channel support or a non-English vendor support team
On this page

LiveChat is one of the longest-running products in live chat software. It launched in 2002, has spent more than 20 years in continuous development, and is used by more than 30,000 customers worldwide as part of a product family that also includes HelpDesk.com and ChatBot.com. [S3][S4][S7] The company behind it rebranded from LiveChat Software S.A. to Text S.A. in 2023 [S12], and as of October 2026 that change is visible in the buying flow: the pricing page at livechat.com now provisions new trials on Text plans, while the classic LiveChat plans remain in place for existing accounts. [S1][S2]

This review answers the buyer questions underneath that split: what new customers pay today versus what existing accounts pay, which limits bite as a team grows, where the product is genuinely strong, and who should choose something else. It is desk research built from the vendor’s current pages and independent reviews published between October 2025 and October 2026. No paid account was used, and no chats, uptime, or support tests were run for this review. [S7][S8][S10]

Bottom line

Verdict: conditional. The strengths are real: a mature platform from a publicly listed vendor, reporting depth on the mid and top tiers that independent testers rank above Tidio and Freshchat at similar prices, a 200+ app marketplace, a five-minute WordPress setup, and 24/7 support on every plan. [S7][S10][S11] The conditions are just as real: there is no free plan, only a 14-day trial; the headline $19 tier is either a single-seat plan (legacy Starter) or a metered AI allowance (Text Essential); extra AI resolutions cost $49.50 per 50; ChatBot and HelpDesk are separate subscriptions; and if you sign up new today, the plan you buy is Text, not the classic LiveChat product most older reviews describe. [S1][S2][S5][S7][S10]

What LiveChat costs in 2026

There are two current price lists, and which one applies depends on whether you are a new or an existing customer. [S1][S2]

New customers are provisioned on Text plans at livechat.com/pricing. Annual billing is the default view; monthly costs more. [S1]

Text planPer user / month, billed annuallyBilled monthlyMain limits
Essential$19$251 AI Agent, 10 AI resolutions per month, 50 live visitors tracked, 3 campaigns, 10,000 API calls, 60-day history
Growth$79$9910 AI Agents, 200 AI resolutions per month, 400 live visitors tracked, 30 campaigns, 20,000 API calls, unlimited history
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom AI agents, SSO and audit logs, white-label widget, SLAs, dedicated team

Existing customers keep the classic ladder, still documented at livechat.com/pricing-legacy. The annual rates below are the ones the page shows by default; the monthly figures come from the page’s billing toggle and are confirmed by two independent trackers. [S2][S8][S9]

LiveChat planPer person / month, billed annuallyBilled monthlyMain limits
Starter$19$251 user, 100 live visitors tracked, 1 recurring campaign, 60-day chat history, basic widget customization
Team$49$59Unlimited users, 400 live visitors, unlimited campaigns and chat history, full widget customization, basic reporting
Business$79$891,000 live visitors, work scheduler, staffing prediction, on-demand and advanced reporting, agent performance, SMS and Apple Messages for Business
EnterpriseCustomCustomQuote-based, with white-labeling and advanced compliance options

A few cost details matter before checkout. Annual billing saves about 24% on the entry tier and about 20% on Growth, and the vendor’s own example puts a five-person Growth team at $4,740 per year instead of $5,940 billed monthly, a $1,200 difference. [S1] Extra AI resolutions come in packs of 50 for $49.50, and an extra 100,000 API calls costs $29.50, on both Text tiers. [S1] Prices exclude sales tax or VAT, third-party marketplace apps set their own fees, and non-profit and education buyers can ask about discounts. [S1]

Every new signup starts with a 14-day free trial that does not ask for a credit card, on Essential and Growth. [S1][S10]

The Text transition, explained

The vendor’s own FAQ is the clearest source on what changed: “LiveChat pricing for new trials now lives here, as Text plans,” with Text described as “the next product from the team behind LiveChat,” which “keeps the live chat you came for and adds a shared inbox, ticketing, and an AI Agent in the same workspace, on one subscription.” [S1]

For existing accounts, nothing changes: “Your LiveChat account, plan, and price stay exactly as they are,” and the legacy pricing page remains available for comparison. [S1] That means the $19/$49/$79 ladder so many reviews describe is now the legacy ladder, and a new buyer’s plan mix looks different from the one in those reviews. [S1][S2][S13]

It also means the family around LiveChat stays modular. HelpDesk.com, for ticketing-first teams, and ChatBot.com, for autonomous bot deflection, are separate subscriptions that each start at $19 per user per month billed annually, and both integrate with the chat workspace. [S5][S6][S7] Budget for them separately if your plan depends on them.

Limits that decide the tier

The entry price is the least important number in this pricing grid. Two limits do more to determine what a team actually pays. [S1][S2][S7]

First, seats. The legacy Starter plan is capped at one user, full stop: a team of two or more agents cannot deploy on it at any price and must move to Team at $49 per person, which GetOmnichannel frames as a 158% per-agent jump over the Starter sticker. [S2][S7] The new Text plans dropped that cap: the vendor says there is no minimum team size and no fixed user cap on Essential or Growth, so you add seats as needed. [S1] On the legacy side, the practical math for a five-agent team is $245 per month on Team, or $395 per month on Business once advanced reporting is required. [S7]

Second, metered AI. On Text plans, an AI resolution counts when the AI directly solves a customer question, and multiple questions in the same chat still count as one. [S1] The allowances are modest at the entry tier and generous at the mid tier:

Text plan limitEssentialGrowth
AI Agents110
AI resolutions per month10200
Live visitors tracked50400
API calls per month10,00020,000
Conversation history60 daysUnlimited
File storage2 GB plus 50 MB per user15 GB plus 100 MB per user

Proactive campaigns330

Beyond those two, the limits that show up in reviews are channel coverage (web chat first, with Messenger, SMS, and Shopify built in; reviews differ on how native WhatsApp support is, with one noting the Business API needs a third-party bridge) and support scope (all plans include 24/7 support, but vendor support is English-only). [S1][S7][S10][S11]

What the product does well

Reporting and agent tooling. Reporting depth on the Team and Business tiers is the product’s standout: agent performance scorecards, response-time distributions, conversion attribution, and cohort analysis with drill-down, plus a work scheduler and demand forecaster on Business. GetOmnichannel tested it across a 14-agent support team and rated the reporting above Freshchat and Tidio at similar tier pricing. [S7] WPBeginner, which has run LiveChat for years, calls the reports the foundation of its data-driven support process while noting they are operational reports rather than a BI replacement. [S10]

Integrations and setup. The app marketplace spans 200+ integrations across CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive), helpdesk (Zendesk, Freshdesk), and commerce (Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce). [S7][S10] Setup is fast on any platform and especially simple on WordPress, where the free plugin installs like any other plugin and connects the widget in minutes. [S10][S12]

Security and support. The stack covers encrypted connections, two-factor authentication, logins through Google, Apple, or Microsoft, credit-card masking in chats, IP blocking, and SOC 2 attestation, with SSO, audit logs, and a white-label widget on Enterprise. [S1][S10] Support runs 24/7/365 across email, phone, and chat on every plan, backed by a deep help center and webinars. [S2][S10] GetOmnichannel reports a 99.99% uptime SLA on Business and above, with US and EU data residency options. [S7]

Platform maturity. Twenty-plus years of development shows in reliability and ecosystem breadth, and Tooltester has kept LiveChat on its best-live-chat badge for four years running, rating it 4.4 out of 5 and calling it one of the best options in the category, just not the cheapest. [S11]

Where LiveChat falls short

  • No free plan. The trial is the only free access; after 14 days it is paid commitment, while competitors such as Tidio and Freshchat keep free seats on the table. [S7][S10][S11]
  • Per-seat cost adds up. Tooltester’s long-standing criticism is price: LiveChat costs more than most live chat tools, and the extras (agent groups, additional triggers, chatbot) push the total further. [S11]
  • The $19 tier is a trap for teams. Legacy Starter is one seat, and WPBeginner’s verdict is that the real value starts at the Team plan. [S7][S10]
  • AI is metered and not category-leading. Autonomous deflection depth sits behind a separate ChatBot subscription, and independent testers rank Intercom Fin and Tidio Lyro ahead on AI per-conversation economics. [S7]
  • Deep social channels trail specialists. Web chat, Messenger, SMS, and Shopify are the core; broader channel depth arrives through integrations and bridges. [S7][S10]
  • Stability and billing complaints exist. WPBeginner relays user reports of disconnections and missed chat notifications, and advises written confirmation of what each plan includes plus calendar reminders before annual renewals. [S10]

Where the sources disagree

Several third-party pages describe a LiveChat that no longer quite exists, so three discrepancies are worth flagging. [S8][S12][S13]

  1. Monthly Business pricing. The legacy page’s billing toggle shows $89 per person billed monthly, and CostBench and AI Productivity agree; GetOmnichannel’s table shows $95. The official markup and the two trackers win, and the $95 figure looks like an outlier. [S2][S7][S8][S9]
  2. Retired ladders. CRM.org, updated January 19, 2026, still lists $20/$41/$59 per agent, and SavvyTheme lists $16/$33/$50 with a 30-day trial. Those numbers predate the current pages and the April 2026 increases that AI Productivity tracked (Team $49 to $59, Business $69 to $89 on monthly billing), so treat any review quoting them as stale. [S8][S12][S13]
  3. Ratings. GetOmnichannel cites G2 at 4.5 out of 5 across 760+ reviews; AI Productivity’s aggregate across nine platforms is 3.9 out of 5 from 4,081 reviews. Both are plausible for different review mixes, and neither replaces the trial. [S7][S8]

LiveChat pros and cons

Pros

  • Mature platform from a publicly listed vendor, with 20+ years of development and strong editorial scores (Tooltester 4.4/5; G2 4.5/5 per GetOmnichannel). [S7][S11]
  • Category-leading reporting on mid and top tiers, with cohort analysis, agent scorecards, and demand forecasting. [S7]
  • 200+ integrations, a free WordPress plugin, and setup measured in minutes. [S10][S11][S12]
  • 24/7 email, phone, and chat support on every plan, with Enterprise adding training and engineering access. [S10]
  • Security depth unusual for the category: card masking, IP blocking, 2FA, SSO options, SOC 2 attestation. [S1][S10]
  • New Text plans bundle live chat, shared inbox, ticketing, and an AI Agent in one subscription, with no minimum team size. [S1]

Cons

  • No free plan; only a 14-day trial before paid commitment. [S7][S10]
  • Per-seat pricing is expensive next to rivals, and the $19 entry tier is either one seat (legacy) or a small AI allowance (Text). [S2][S7][S11]
  • AI resolutions are metered, extra packs cost $49.50 per 50, and autonomous deflection requires a separate ChatBot subscription. [S1][S7]
  • The LiveChat versus Text split makes comparison shopping harder, and many published reviews quote retired numbers. [S1][S12][S13]
  • Social channel depth and non-English support are weaker than the core product. [S7][S11]
  • User reports of disconnections and notification misses are common enough to warrant a trial-period check. [S10]

Who should choose LiveChat

LiveChat fits teams that will actually use its reporting: B2B SaaS support and mid-market service teams from roughly 10 to 40 agents, where GetOmnichannel’s testing found the Team and Business tiers strongest. [S7] It fits WordPress and Shopify site owners who want a polished widget, a free plugin, and integrations that cover the rest of the stack. [S10][S11] It fits agencies managing several client brands from one workspace through the multi-brand widget and agent groups. [S7] It fits solo operators on the legacy Starter tier or Text Essential, provided they stay within a single seat or a small AI allowance. [S2][S7] And it fits ecommerce teams that use chat as a sales channel, with Shopify selling, cart recovery, and visitor tracking built into the plans. [S1][S10]

Who should look elsewhere

Skip LiveChat if free seats are non-negotiable: Tidio keeps a free plan and Freshchat offers free agents, and both were named as the better pick for specific profiles in GetOmnichannel’s alternatives testing. [S7][S11] Skip it if autonomous AI deflection at the lowest cost per resolution is the goal, where Intercom Fin and Tidio Lyro lead. [S7] Skip it if you need native Shopify depth or six-channel messaging rather than integrations. [S7] For budget-first buyers, Tooltester flags JivoChat as offering similar features at a much lower price, and LiveChat’s $19 entry price climbs quickly once seats and automation needs grow. [S11] If ticketing is the primary need rather than chat, HelpDesk.com from the same family starts at $19 per user per month. [S6]

If the wider stack matters as much as the chat widget, the site’s HubSpot review and Pipedrive review cover the CRM side LiveChat syncs with, MailerLite review covers the email-list capture workflow that pairs with a pre-chat form, and the best WordPress hosting roundup is the starting point if the widget needs a new home.

Final verdict

LiveChat earns a conditional recommendation with medium confidence. The product itself remains excellent for its niche: mature, fast to deploy, unusually deep on reporting, and supported around the clock. [S7][S10][S11] The conditions are pricing and packaging. New buyers get Text plans, not the classic product, and the metered AI allowances plus the single-seat legacy Starter tier mean the sticker price is rarely the real cost. [S1][S2][S7]

Match the plan to the team: Text Essential for a small operation that wants the modern bundle, Text Growth once a real support team lives in the inbox, and the legacy ladder only if you are an existing customer keeping your account. If free seats, bundled AI, or deep social channels are requirements rather than nice-to-haves, compare Tidio, Freshchat, and Intercom first. [S1][S7][S10]
