HubSpot CRM Review 2026: Free Limits and Paid Costs
HubSpot CRM is free for two users. Compare 2026 contact, seat, automation, support, onboarding, and AI credit costs before upgrading.
Limits: No HubSpot account was used and no migration, automation, deliverability, or support-response test was performed. HubSpot sells multiple Hubs, seat types, contact tiers, credits, add-ons, and legacy contracts; examples here cover current public US pricing for new customers, not a binding quote. Marketplace integrations and third-party implementation costs were not individually assessed.
HubSpot is a practical free CRM for one or two users and a capable unified platform for funded teams, but buyers must model seats, marketing contacts, onboarding, and AI credits because the cost can rise sharply beyond Starter.
- One-person and two-person teams that need a no-cost contact and deal database
- Organizations prepared to consolidate marketing, sales, service, content, data, and revenue workflows on one CRM
- You need more than two free users or direct support without a paid seat
- You cannot forecast marketing contacts, paid seats, onboarding fees, and credit usage
On this page
HubSpot is not one CRM plan. It is a shared customer database surrounded by separate Marketing, Sales, Service, Content, Data, and Revenue Hubs, plus AI features sold partly through monthly credits. That breadth can reduce handoffs between systems, but it also makes the total price harder to infer from a single starting figure.
The free CRM is a credible starting point for a very small business, with an important correction to older reviews: current free accounts support up to two users and 1,000 contacts, not unlimited users or unlimited contacts. Paid Starter products begin at $20 per seat per month. Professional marketing automation starts much higher and carries mandatory onboarding.
Quick verdict
Start with HubSpot Free when one or two people need contacts, companies, deals, tasks, forms, basic email, meetings, live chat, tickets, and reporting. Move to Starter to remove some branding and limits or to obtain direct chat and email support. Buy Professional only after mapping the exact automation, reporting, seat, and contact requirements that justify it.
HubSpot becomes less attractive when a buyer wants one narrowly scoped tool, predictable flat pricing, or the ability to reduce a marketing-contact commitment immediately after a list cleanup.
What HubSpot Free includes and limits
HubSpot’s current product catalog lists a broad set of free tools, but many have hard caps.
| Free capability | Published limit |
|---|---|
| Users | 2 |
| Contacts | 1,000 |
| Other standard object records | 1 million per object type |
| Deal pipelines | 1 |
| Reporting | 10 dashboards, 50 reports per dashboard |
| Email tracking notifications | 200 per month |
| Email templates | 3 per account |
| Meeting links | 1 personal link, with HubSpot branding |
| Shared inboxes | 1 |
| Marketing email | 2,000 sends per calendar month, with branding |
| Landing pages | 30, with branding |
| Active CRM segments | 10, plus 1,000 static segments |
| Custom properties | 10 total across contacts, companies, and deals |
Free also includes forms, ticketing, live chat, one team email, basic automation, a mobile app, and Gmail, Outlook, or supported Exchange connections. It is enough to validate a simple process, but its limits can be reached quickly by a multi-person sales operation or an established contact database.
Free users receive the Knowledge Base and community, not HubSpot chat, email, or phone support.
Current CRM and Sales Hub pricing
HubSpot’s catalog lists the following starting US prices for new customers. Taxes, add-ons, implementation, and third-party services are separate.
| Product and edition | Starting subscription | Mandatory onboarding | Buyer implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free tools | $0, up to 2 users | None | Useful for a small database and one basic pipeline |
| Smart CRM Starter | $20/seat/mo | None listed | Paid CRM controls and Starter access |
| Smart CRM Professional | $50/seat/mo | None listed | More advanced CRM customization |
| Smart CRM Enterprise | $75/seat/mo | None listed | Enterprise CRM controls |
| Sales Hub Starter | $20/seat/mo | None listed | Entry sales tools and direct support |
| Sales Hub Professional | $100/Sales Seat/mo | $1,500 one time | Full Professional sales functions require a Sales Seat |
| Sales Hub Enterprise | $150/Sales Seat/mo, billed annually | $3,500 one time | Highest sales tier and annual commitment |
Sales Hub Professional and Enterprise have no additional seat minimum for new customers under the current model. However, a Core Seat does not unlock all advanced seller functions. Full Professional or Enterprise sales functionality requires the corresponding Sales Seat.
This distinction matters in mixed teams. Inventory which users need to edit basic CRM records and which need sequences, calling, forecasting, playbooks, or other seller features before accepting a quote.
Marketing Hub pricing is a different model
Marketing Hub combines a base subscription, included Core Seats, marketing-contact tiers, and mandatory onboarding at higher editions.
| Marketing Hub edition | Starting price | Included marketing contacts | Included Core Seats | Mandatory onboarding |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $20/seat/mo | 1,000 | Priced per seat | None listed |
| Professional | $890/mo | 2,000 | 3 | $3,000 one time |
| Enterprise | $3,600/mo, billed annually | 10,000 | 5 | $7,000 one time |
Professional adds the automation and campaign capabilities that usually motivate a serious Marketing Hub purchase. The jump is therefore not merely from $20 to $890: the first-year minimum for Professional also includes the $3,000 onboarding fee, before extra contacts, seats, credits, or services.
Marketing contacts can change the bill
Only contacts designated as marketing contacts can receive marketing email or be targeted with ads. Non-marketing contacts do not incur the marketing-contact charge, although HubSpot lists an overall database ceiling of 15 million contacts for these paid Marketing Hub editions.
The billing rules deserve attention:
- Changing a contact from non-marketing to marketing takes effect immediately.
- Changing a marketing contact to non-marketing takes effect at the start of the next month or renewal date, whichever comes first.
- Crossing the purchased marketing-contact tier can trigger an immediate upgrade and prorated charge.
- HubSpot’s Product Specific Terms say a marketing-contact subscription fee does not decrease during the current term after the tier has increased.
For Starter, the first 1,000 marketing contacts are included. The catalog lists the next tier, 1,001 to 3,000, at an additional $50 monthly, with blended rates changing at larger volumes. Professional contact capacity is sold in 5,000-contact increments above its included 2,000. Ask for a quote using the expected peak number of marketable contacts, not the current raw database size.
HubSpot Credits add usage pricing
HubSpot Credits power selected AI agents, automation, enrichment, and other usage-based features. Included credits depend on the highest subscription level rather than adding together across every purchased Hub.
| Subscription scope | Starter | Professional | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smart CRM or an individual Hub | 500/mo | 3,000/mo | 5,000/mo |
| Data Hub or bundled Customer Platform | 500/mo | 5,000/mo | 10,000/mo |
Unused credits expire at the monthly reset. Additional capacity costs $10 per 1,000 credits, or $0.01 per credit with pay-as-you-go. HubSpot says capacity can automatically upgrade when usage exceeds the limit unless the account is configured for pay-as-you-go instead. Some automated or high-volume features consume credits faster, so review the current rate sheet and set account controls before deploying an agent broadly.
Product strengths on paper
- One underlying record system: Smart CRM is included with paid Hubs and connects marketing, sales, service, content, data, and revenue activity.
- A usable free entry point: Two users can run basic contact, deal, form, meeting, chat, and ticket workflows without a subscription.
- Graduated support: Starter adds chat and email; Professional and Enterprise add phone support.
- Export routes: HubSpot documents exports for records, content, ads, and email performance, which reduces but does not eliminate migration work.
- Extensive configuration at higher tiers: Advanced reporting, automation, permissions, and object customization are available, but edition and seat restrictions apply.
These are conclusions from official feature and limit documentation, not findings from hands-on testing.
Main buying risks
The starting price is not total cost
A realistic budget can include Core, Sales, Service, or Revenue Seats; marketing contacts; onboarding; credits; limit increases; implementation partners; calling or messaging; and marketplace apps. Ask HubSpot or a partner for a line-item order form and a renewal estimate.
Shared features do not necessarily create additive limits
The product catalog says common limits across multiple Hubs generally are not additive. For example, buying two products that each list a shared calling allowance does not automatically double the account allowance. Confirm account-level limits in the order.
A free-to-Professional migration is a process change
The free database proves record structure and basic pipeline fit, but it does not prove that advanced workflows, attribution, permissions, or integrations fit the business. Build a requirements list and prototype critical data fields and lifecycle rules before committing to onboarding and an annual contract.
Security and support
HubSpot’s security page states that sensitive product interactions use TLS 1.2 or 1.3 and stored data uses AES-256 encryption. It documents two-factor authentication, SAML SSO at Enterprise, SOC 2 Type 2 and SOC 3 reporting, ISO 27001-certified infrastructure, configurable permissions, and regional data-hosting options. HubSpot’s Product Specific Terms commit to commercially reasonable efforts toward 99.95% monthly service uptime, with exclusions and remedies governed by those terms.
Those are supplier claims and contractual statements, not measurements made for this review. Regulated buyers should validate the current Trust Center evidence, data-hosting region, DPA, sensitive-data terms, subprocessors, backup needs, and exact edition required for SSO or advanced controls.
HubSpot’s support article, last updated June 30, 2026, describes these channels:
| Plan | Knowledge Base and community | Chat and email | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Yes | No | No |
| Starter | Yes | Yes | No |
| Professional | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Enterprise | Yes | Yes | Yes |
For accounts created on or after March 5, 2024, a user needs an assigned paid Core, Sales, or Service Seat to access direct support. HubSpot says email replies generally arrive within one working day, but this review did not verify response speed or resolution quality.
Which tier should you choose?
Use Free for one or two users validating a basic CRM and deal process with no need for direct support.
Use Starter when the free caps or branding interfere with operations, or chat and email support are worth paying for. Check whether a single Hub or the Starter Customer Platform bundle gives the lower total for the required products.
Use Sales Hub Professional when advanced sales workflows are required and each seller who needs them can justify a $100 monthly Sales Seat plus onboarding.
Use Marketing Hub Professional when the business has a defined automation and campaign-reporting requirement, an owner for implementation, and a budget that includes contacts and the $3,000 onboarding fee.
Use Enterprise only when its governance, object, reporting, team, or scale features are explicit requirements. Do not buy it solely as a generic future-proofing step.
Final verdict
HubSpot is conditionally recommended. Free is commercially useful for a two-person team, and Starter offers a controlled next step. The unified platform becomes more compelling when several customer-facing teams genuinely share the same records and workflows.
The main concern is cost predictability. A buyer should calculate paid users by seat type, peak marketing contacts, onboarding, credits, and add-ons for both year one and renewal. If that model is clear and the cross-team platform value exceeds the switching and implementation cost, HubSpot is defensible. If the requirement is only a sales pipeline or only email automation, compare focused products before accepting the platform premium.
