Semrush Review 2026: Pricing, Limits, and Best Plans
Semrush starts at $139 monthly. Compare its current SEO and AI plans, crawl and tracking limits, add-ons, security, and buyer fit.
Limits: No paid Semrush account or instrumented data-quality test was used for this review. Semrush's live pricing page and its SEO Toolkit limits article showed different plan names and prices on the research date; this review uses the live pricing page for current purchase pricing and identifies the discrepancy. Search volumes, traffic estimates, keyword difficulty scores, and AI visibility data were not benchmarked against first-party analytics or competing databases.
Semrush is a strong fit when a team will use its keyword, competitor, rank-tracking, backlink, and audit workflows regularly, but the price, one-user base subscription, add-ons, and changing plan structure make it poor value for occasional research.
- SEO teams and agencies that need research, tracking, backlinks, and technical audits in one subscription
- Brands that can justify paying more to monitor both conventional search and AI visibility
- You need only occasional keyword lookups or one small-site audit
- You require independently verified traffic estimates or a simple, stable plan catalog
On this page
Semrush is best understood as a search-marketing data platform, not a single keyword tool. Its paid plans combine domain and keyword research, competitor analysis, rank tracking, backlinks, and technical site auditing. The newer combined tiers also measure brand visibility in AI answers.
The buyer case is conditional. The current entry price is $139 per month, but that plan is limited to five monitored websites and 500 daily tracked keywords. A team that needs historical data, content optimization, API access, or meaningful prompt tracking must spend more. Semrush can consolidate several SEO workflows, but it is difficult to justify when those workflows are only used occasionally.
Semrush pricing in August 2026
Semrush’s live pricing page displayed the following US dollar prices on August 1, 2026. Annual figures are effective monthly rates, but the subscription is billed annually.
| Current plan | Monthly billing | Annual effective rate | Websites | Daily tracked keywords | Main upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEO | $139/mo | $117.33/mo | 5 | 500 | Core SEO research, Position Tracking, Site Audit, and limited AI-search monitoring |
| Starter, SEO + AI Search | $199/mo | $165.17/mo | 5 | 500 | 50 tracked prompts, one AI brand domain, and 300 AI visibility reports per day |
| Pro+, SEO + AI Search | $299/mo | $248.17/mo | 15 | 1,500 | Historical SEO data, content optimization, multi-location/device tracking, and 100 prompts |
| Advanced, SEO + AI Search | $549/mo | $455.67/mo | 40 | 5,000 | SEO share of voice, API data integration, and 200 prompts |
The annual rates save about 16.7%, but annual billing increases the commitment. Semrush says subscriptions can be cancelled, upgraded, or downgraded unless custom signed terms apply. Cancellation generally stops renewal rather than refunding unused prepaid time, so read the checkout and current terms before paying annually.
A pricing-documentation conflict to check before purchase
Semrush’s SEO Toolkit pricing and limits article still listed Pro at $139.95, Guru at $249.95, and Business at $499.95 on the same research date. Those names map to the familiar limits of 5, 15, and 40 websites and 500, 1,500, and 5,000 tracked keywords.
That article is useful for detailed limits, but it does not match the live page’s current names and purchase prices. A new buyer should treat the live pricing page and final checkout as controlling, then obtain written confirmation from sales if a feature or limit is material to the decision.
What the core SEO plan covers
Keyword and competitor research
Keyword Overview and Keyword Magic Tool provide Semrush’s modeled search volume, intent, difficulty, cost-per-click, trend, and SERP-feature data. Domain reports expose estimated rankings, traffic, pages, competitors, paid keywords, and backlinks for a researched domain.
These are planning datasets, not access to a competitor’s analytics account. Search volume, traffic, and difficulty are Semrush estimates. Use them to prioritize and compare opportunities, then validate important decisions against Search Console, advertising platform data, and first-party conversions.
Position tracking
Position Tracking monitors selected keywords by configured target. The entry allowance of 500 keywords may be enough for one focused site, but the allowance is shared across monitored work. Agencies should total keywords across every client, device, location, and campaign before assuming the entry tier fits.
Site Audit
Semrush documents more than 140 technical and on-page checks, including crawlability, indexability, HTTPS, internal links, duplicate content, hreflang, and AI crawler access. The operational limits matter more than the check count:
| SEO Toolkit level underlying the plan | Pages per month | Maximum pages per audit | Concurrent audits | JavaScript rendering |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No SEO Toolkit | 100 | 100 | 1 | No |
| Pro | 100,000 | 20,000 | 2 | No |
| Guru | 300,000 | 20,000 | 2 | Yes |
| Business | 1,000,000 | 100,000 | 5 | Yes |
Unused crawl pages do not roll over, and the monthly allowance resets on the first day of the month. JavaScript rendering requires the Guru or Business toolkit level. This makes the entry plan a questionable choice for a large JavaScript-heavy site even when its monthly page allowance looks sufficient.
Backlinks and content
Backlink reports, Backlink Audit, Keyword Gap, and Backlink Gap support research and outreach planning. Pro+ adds historical SEO data and content optimization. Do not assume every product shown across Semrush’s website is bundled: Content, Local, Social, Advertising, and other toolkits or App Center products can have separate subscriptions.
Costs beyond the headline price
The live pricing page listed these optional charges:
- Additional users starting at $45 per month. The base subscription is designed around an individual account, and Semrush’s terms prohibit shared credentials.
- A Base Report add-on at $10 per month.
- A Pro Report add-on at $20 per month, adding external integrations, link sharing, branding, white labeling, timed delivery, and AI summaries.
- Lead Generation at $90 per month.
The reporting add-ons are particularly relevant to agencies. Do not infer that white-label client reporting is included merely because the underlying SEO tier is expensive.
Security and support
Semrush says service data is stored in US data centers across AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Digital Realty. Its security page documents TLS 1.2 or higher in transit, AES-256 storage encryption, encrypted backups, role-based internal access, logging to a SIEM, annual penetration tests, a HackerOne bug bounty, two-factor authentication, and SAML SSO by contacting support. It also states PCI DSS Level 1 compliance.
Those are vendor statements, not an independent audit performed for this review. Buyers with data-location, SSO, retention, or compliance requirements should request the applicable evidence and contract terms before purchase.
All users receive the Knowledge Base, blog, and webinars. Free accounts can contact support about billing, account, legal, and security matters but do not receive direct product support. Paid subscribers can submit product questions and technical issues through Semrush support. The public support page does not promise a response-time SLA.
Who should buy Semrush?
Choose the $139 SEO plan when one person manages a small number of sites, 500 tracked keywords is enough, and conventional SEO is the main requirement.
Choose Starter only if tracking 50 AI prompts and one brand domain is worth the $60 monthly uplift. Its conventional SEO capacity remains five websites and 500 keywords, so this is an AI-visibility upgrade rather than a scale upgrade.
Choose Pro+ when 15 sites, 1,500 keywords, historical data, content optimization, and 100 prompts match real ongoing work. This is the first current tier that materially expands both workflow depth and project capacity.
Choose Advanced when API integration, 5,000 tracked keywords, 40 websites, or SEO share of voice is a requirement. At $549 monthly, it needs a clear agency or multi-brand business case.
When to choose something else
- Use free search-engine and analytics tools when the requirement is first-party performance reporting rather than competitor research.
- Compare a focused rank tracker or site crawler when tracking or auditing is the only recurring job.
- Request trials from multiple SEO suites when backlink coverage, keyword coverage, or estimates for a specific country are procurement-critical. Database breadth claims do not establish accuracy for a particular market.
Final verdict
Semrush is recommendable with conditions for teams that will repeatedly use several of its connected workflows. The $139 SEO plan is the sensible starting point for conventional SEO. Starter is harder to justify because it raises the price without raising the five-site or 500-keyword limits. Pro+ is the more meaningful operational upgrade for a growing team.
Before buying, list the required websites, tracked keywords, crawl volume, users, reports, and AI prompts. Price those requirements rather than the product’s feature count, and verify the order because Semrush’s live pricing and limits documentation were not fully synchronized on August 1, 2026.
If search leads feed a broader revenue system, the HubSpot CRM review explains its current contact, seat, and automation costs.
